Why buy dōTERRA Essential Oils

Within the essential oils industry there are three grades of quality. The first and largest are the synthetic essential oils. These oils are used in the perfume industry. The next grade is for the food industry and and conforms to the GRAS standard. The last and most exclusive grade is used for therapeutic purposes . Within the Therapeutic Grade oils are the Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade. In order to reach the therapeutic grade it is absolutely vital that the plants that produce the oils follow strict growing and harvesting methods otherwise the molecules in the oils will be chemically altered. The may still smell the same, but they won't have the same effect on your body.

At dōTERRA care is taken to monitor the growing and harvesting of the plants to ensure that the proper methods. This is not unique to dōTERRA, some other companies will occasionally oversee the suppliers this way. What is unique at dōTERRA is that each and every batch is tested by an independent lab not affiliated with dōTERRA using a gas chromatography and a mass spectrometry test. This assures that every batch is Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade and ensures the exact composition and activity. This is vital because sometimes dōTERRA will receive a batch of oil from a supplier and the quality of the oil will be compromised with synthetic oils or by fillers. This process exceeds AFNOR and ISO quality standards. If dōTERRA did not test every batch these oils would slip through the system and reduce the effectiveness of your oils.

Many essential oil companies believe that they are selling the highest quality available, but if they do not test and every batch with a GC and a MS test how do they know? Why is it important to use both a GC and a MS test you may ask? The answer is that a GC will only count the different constituents or parts of a molecule to verify that all are present. It can not check for additional constituents, synthetic oils or fillers present in the sample. A GC cannot tell the difference between synthetic oils and natural oils, meaning that if only a GC is done a company may end up selling 100% pure synthetic oil when they believe that they are selling 100% pure natural oil.

A MS can tell whether a not a sample is pure or adulterated, natural or synthetic. In fact there are many different classes of drugs that look the same in a GC test, but it is only until a MS test is run that the lab technicians can tell that a patient has used one drug and not another.

Both of these tests are expensive but the MS is the more expensive test. The founders of dōTERRA choose to take home less money in order to ensure that every batch of oil was certified pure therapeutic grade oil. Why would they do this? Because they use these oils on themselves and their family's and want the highest quality available for their personal use.
Because I have such confidence in the quality of dōTERRA's oils I encourage those new to the world of Aromatherapy to test and try a variety of companies oils. In my personal use of oils with both my family and in my private practice, dōTERRA's oils are the only ones that my husband and clients repeatedly ask for.

Essential Oils and Aromatherapy

Essential Oils are the natural aromatic oil extracts from the roots, leaves, flowers. fruits, resin and bark of various plants, Including many popular herbs. Within these extracts are many powerful compounds that aid the body's healing processes.

These natural oils that contain the "essence" of a plant are non water-based phytochemicals made up of volatile organic compounds. Unlike Animal and vegetable oils essential oil do not contain fatty lipids or acids giving them a cleaner, non greasy feel and will not leave an oily residue on paper. There are a few oils that are more viscous and may leave a residue. Unfortunately this can make it harder to distinguish pure oil from adulterated oil that have had a cheaper oil added as "filler". This is why it is so important to buy oils from a company that tests EVERY batch of oils the receive from a supplier with both a gas chromatograph and a mass spectrometer test from a independent third party. When Essential oils are diluted or polluted with synthetic or filler oil their efficacy is compromised.

History

The earliest written evidence that perfume was used comes from Ramayana, an Indian epic written during 2000 b.c.. In fact there is evidence to suggest that essential oils were used in ancient China and India thousands of year before the pharaohs. Avicenna, a physician who livied in Constantinople during the tenth century wrote a book on the beneficial effects of the rose. He went on to write over a hundered books on a variety of subjects.
The modern scientific study of essential oils was started in the 1937 by Rene-Maurice Gattefosse, a french chemist. While working to develpo fragrences for the cosmetics industry, Gattefosse burned his hand very badly. He immerssed his hand in what he though was cold water, but it was in fact lavander oil. After discovering that the lavander oil dramatically reduced the pain of the burn and healed very quickly without any scarring Gattefosse then dedicated the rest of his life to the research of essential oils natural healing properties. Gattefosse named the practice of using essential oils for healing purposes "aromatherapy".
These healing compounds of plants have been studied and scientists have synthethized the "active" compounds. Over 25% of perscription medication in the United State now contain synthetic copies of these natural compounds.

What Classical Feng Shui is NOT

During the 1970s and 1980s commercialized schools such as the Life Aspirations and/or Black Sect were born These schools divide a home or dwelling into eight "life aspirations" sections. These sections are career, knowledge, family, helpful people, children, marriage, fame and wealth.

The location of the front door is used to orient thses maps. For example in the Black Sect theory the left hand corner is the wealth corner while in the Life Aspirations theory the left hand corner is the career area.

Cures are used to correct "problems" These cures are often mirrors, crystals, windchimes, I ching coins, statues and many others.

What is Classical Feng Shui?

Classical Feng Shui is like Acupuncture for your home.

Introduction

Classical Feng Shui is an Ancient Chinese system that uses concepts from Chinese medicine and the I Ching to find the most auspiscious location for your home and to create a healthy flow of energy or Chi in the home. Feng Shui translates as Wind Water in Chinese.

History

Acheaologist have found artifacts from grave sites that suggest that some of the basic principles of Feng Shui were being used by the Neolithic Chinese as far back as 6000 b.c. It was during the Tang dynasty (618-907 c.e.) that Feng Shui came into its own and developed many of techniques we use today.

Important building blocks of Classical Feng Shui

Feng Shui is a system based on the observation of time as viewed in the heavens and on earthly forces and how the two ineract. When using Feng Shui why strive to balnce the qi (energy) of the two. The idea is when thses forces are in harmony our lives and homes improve.
Every Feng Shui practitioner will carry a compass. A Lupoan compass is a traditional compass that has cocentric rings will additonal information.
When using the Flying Star technique the magnetic direction of where the home sits (the back), and when the home was built are used to draw a qi map of the home. The year the occupants were born is used to determine how well the house works with them and their most favorable spaces in the home.

The Five Elements (fire, earth, metal, water and wood) are used to balance the qi (energy) in the home.

Form School (Xingfa)

Within Classical Feng Shui there are two methods or schools that are used together. The first and oldest is Form School or Xingfa. The Form school is also the most intuitive and easy to understand of the two schools. when using the Form method you examine your natural surrounding to find the most peaceful areas for your home. For example the ideal location would have mountains at you back with a lake or natural water feature at the front.

Compass School

The term Compass school is actually a western term, in Chinese it is called Liqi Pai or Patterns of Qi school. Within the Compass School there are different techinques that are used. They are Flying Star (Xuankong Feixing), Three Harmonies (sanhe), Mystical doors (Qi Men), and Changing triagrams (Yigua).

The core of Compass school is that each of the eight cardnial directions, north, northeast, east, southeast, south, southwest, west, north west, have a unique type or flavor of qi. Surrounding this core premise numerology, astrology and other factors are added. Compass school is not intutitive, it relies on computaions, observation and intellect.
